# A PHOTO A DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY – Day 11

Not sure what this flower is..      COULD IT BE WHITE GINGER LILY (Hedychium coronarium) ?

This image was made while walking home through the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne late in the afternoon.   A shaft of light caught these white flowers, with the background in deep shadow.   Perfect time to capture the flower blooms – a busy tangle of petals, but at least the busy background fades away at this time of day.

  1. It looks very gingerish to me. There’s a lot of wild ginger here in NZ, and it’s a real invasive problem. But if it was on display in your Botanic Gardens, it probably wasn’t considered a pest there. That’s good to know.

    1. Thanks, Gary. I did have the correct name, but I’m wondering what your wild ginger flower looks like now that you have mentioned it.

    1. Thanks Pete. This is one of the few times I’ve got a white flower showing the details clearly and not over-exposed so I was very pleased with the resulting image. They look very waxy in this particular photo.
